Pre-Bariatric Psychological Evaluations

A pre‑surgery psychological evaluation is usually part of the bariatric surgery process.

Before bariatric surgery, patients complete a psychological assessment to ensure they are prepared for the emotional, behavioral, and lifestyle changes involved. The assessment helps identify strengths, challenges, and any support needed to promote safe surgery and lasting results.

The psychological evaluation usually takes place midway through the pre‑bariatric surgery process, after you’ve met with the bariatric team and a nutritionist. This evaluation helps make sure you feel confident in your decision, understand what surgery involves, and are emotionally prepared for the lifestyle changes required for long‑term success after surgery.

To get started, please have your bariatric team send a referral and complete the new client paperwork. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at bariatricservices@obhaw.org.
