Leave a Legacy
Access to quality mental health services is critical, now and in the years ahead. Your support helps ensure that OBHAW can continue providing reliable care to the individuals and families who depend on it, today and in the future.
A charitable gift allows you to align your personal, financial, and estate planning goals with a long-term commitment to community mental health. Through your support, OBHAW can strengthen services, expand access, and sustain care for generations to come.
A gift in your will is a revocable commitment that can be updated at any time, allowing you to plan a meaningful contribution without affecting your finances during your lifetime.
You may choose to leave a specific dollar amount, designate particular property, or name OBHAW as a beneficiary of a percentage of your estate through your will or trust.
A gift in your will provides a simple way to support OBHAW’s work long term and may offer tax benefits for you and your family. To make this type of gift, ask your attorney to include the appropriate language in your will or estate planning documents.
Charitable trusts that provide income are estate planning options that offer income to you or your beneficiaries during your lifetime. After the trust term ends, the remaining assets support OBHAW. Your attorney can help you decide which option best fits your goals.
Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT)
A charitable remainder trust is an irrevocable trust that provides income to you or other named beneficiaries for a set period of time or for life. When the trust ends, the remaining assets are distributed to OBHAW. A CRT may also provide a partial charitable tax deduction.
Charitable Remainder Unitrust (CRUT)
A charitable remainder unitrust works similarly to a CRT but provides variable income. Annual payments are based on a fixed percentage of the trust’s fair market value, which is recalculated each year. The donor or members of the donor’s family are typically the initial beneficiaries, with the remaining assets distributed to OBHAW when the trust ends.
A gift that provides lifetime income is a permanent agreement between you and a charity. You make a one-time gift using cash, securities, or other assets. In return, you may receive a partial charitable tax deduction and fixed income payments for the rest of your life. Your attorney can help you decide which option best fits your goals.
IRA Charitable Rollover
If you are age 70½ or older, you can support OBHAW by directing a portion of your IRA to the organization. This type of gift can help reduce taxable income while supporting mental health services.
Benefits of an IRA Charitable Rollover
- Transfer up to $100,000 annually from your IRA to OBHAW without paying income taxes on the distribution
- Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) if you are age 73 or older
- Reduce taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions
- Make a gift that is not subject to standard charitable deduction limits
- Support OBHAW’s mission and programs
To make a gift from your IRA, contact your IRA plan administrator and request a direct transfer to OBHAW. Funds must be sent directly from your IRA to qualify and will be used to support OBHAW’s work.
If you have a life insurance policy that is no longer needed for its original purpose, you can use it to make a meaningful gift to OBHAW and support access to mental health services.
To make a gift of life insurance, contact your insurance provider and request a beneficiary designation form. Name OBHAW as a beneficiary of your policy to ensure your gift supports our work in the future.
Giving stock or other appreciated securities directly to OBHAW is a tax-efficient way to support mental health services. Appreciated securities are investments that have increased in value since they were acquired.
Advantages of Giving Stock or Bonds
- Receive an immediate income tax deduction based on the fair market value of the gift
- Avoid capital gains tax on appreciated assets
