All clients and staff will enter the two group rooms and stay there until they are given the all clear.

Active Shooter Response

It is important that all staff remain vigilant and prepared in the event of an active shooter situation. Your awareness and quick response can make a critical difference.

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Know the location of all exits, safe areas, and which rooms can be locked.
  • Act quickly. Do not hesitate—your prompt response is vital.
  • Your safety and that of our clients is the top priority. Getting to a secure location is the most effective course of action for OBHAW staff.
  • If possible, lock doors, turn off lights, and remain out of sight.
  • Call 911 as soon as it is safe to do so. Immediate notification of law enforcement is essential.

Alert Codes

If a client, staff member, or visitor is threatening or showing signs of physical violence, use the intercom system to warn others in the building. Do not hesitate to act in a threatening situation. In addition to calling law enforcement, announce the type of situation and the location to be avoided.

  • Red Alert: Immediate danger within the building (e.g., gunman). Identify area where threat is. Go to a safe place ASAP. Lock the door. More than one area is identified in case danger is in one of the safe areas.
  • Orange Alert: Immediate danger outside the building. Go to safe area inside the building with no windows.
  • Yellow Alert: Threat received, but not here yet. Be ready to move. Lock all but main exterior door and monitor that entrance.
